As most of you are aware, SRP has been in receivership for the past couple of years. An auction was held on April 10th, with Spokane County's bid tenatively winning. However, the issue is far from over, and there is a lot of work to be done.

Scott Adare is setting up a "Friends of SRP" organization. To get on the
mailing list, send an email asking to join to:
FOSRP@aol.com

Here's the letter he sent out recently. Of note are the cleanup days
(#3) and possibly getting the track open by July 1st (#6).

Dear Friend of Spokane Raceway Park,
Thank you for your support of the Friends of SRP!
As you know, Spokane County has won the bid for SRP at Auction on April
10. This begins the work to bring this purchase to the next step, and
complete the sale and get SRP opened.

The decision is under assault by the dissenting County Commissioner,
Bonnie Mager, and her supporters in the community. There is a group who
do not believe that Spokane County should get into the racing business.

Many of you have offered support, and a few of you are here just to keep
tabs on what is happening. You are all welcome.

Here is what you can do, and what is happening with respect to SRP:

1, Let others know of this list, and ask them to send an email to
fosrp@aol.com <mailto:fosrp@aol.com> to be added to the distribution.

2, If you have not written a letter showing support of the purchase of
SRP to the Spokesman Review, please do so this week. There is a large
letter campaign in the Spokane Newspaper. If you are not a writer,
that's OK. Write 5 sentences and send it, please spell -check what you
write, but send it!
Write to editors@spokesman.com <mailto:editors@spokesman.com>,
include your name and phone number for the editor to get your permission
to print it. 200 words or less. In you own words, state why County
ownership is important to you.

3, I am organizing cleanup days at SRP. (tentatively scheduled for May
17,18,24,25) You will see announcements here. If you can attend, please
do so. If you can bring a shovel, rake or whatever, please do so. If
you are in a position to contribute by bringing a piece of equipment
(brush hog, tractor, bobcat, loader, dump truck) please let me know in
advance. We want to coordinate so we have enough equipment on hand. my
email is sadare(at)aol.com. We need to secure permission, organize the
cleanup that can be done, obtain liability insurance, and schedule the
date. If you can bring refreshments for volunteers, let me know.

4, There is a group working to create a charitable, tax-exempt
foundation to support improvements at SRP. Once the "Friends of SRP
Foundation" is formed you will see announcements here. Don't fret if you
are not in a position to donate, but those who want to donate definitely
want to know how to go about it. We cannot take donations until the
foundation is formed.

5, Friends of SRP will be forming a web site. We've had offers from a
member to build a web site. Let us get it up and running and you'll see
an announcement here.

6, We are working on getting SRP open this summer. Please note that
there are a lot of things that must happen: The receiver must file he
auction results with the court, the judge must approve the auction
results, the County must close on the sale, and operating procedures
must be created and implemented. Right now, we are trying to get the
track going by 7/1. There are a lot of things the County does not
control in the process, but they are trying in earnest.

Thanks for your support!

Scott Adare
